Unlike many other tomes, in ‘Online Marketing to Investors’ Valentine not only outlines and details theory, but also links it with practical steps embedded into a coherent strategy. A welcome addition is the consideration of social media, again stressing the practical and leading edge emphasis of this book. If you’re an accomplished professional who needs to keep current, this book is essential reading.

Essential reading for managers

This new and succinct book clearly demonstrates the paradigm of marketing for analysing the engagement of investor relation officers, and taking a view on the potential that corporates could gain from utilizing effective communication to their financial audiences. From an academic perspective this book is very practical and tremendously relevant to students of marketing with an interest in social media and, keen on researching companies communication strategy to investors.

As readers flow through the book they will find how investor relation profession will only get more influential, and the opportunities for improvement in efficiency is still to be witnessed. As we are quickly approaching a new technological wave, efficiency can provide credible answers in the boardroom when challenged in investor marketing and other internal or external changes.

Daniel rightly managed to emphasise and constantly remind the reader of the importance of investor relations in each chapter and finely links it with relating subjects in each chapter. What is also unique is giving the reader a quick historical context of the topic being discussed such as how the London Stock Exchange works, corporate reputation and ethics of investor relations.

Professionals in investor relations will simply get a view on their practice, which if considered and applied, it could deliver more efficient results and value. Young aspiring academics will be assured, as they discover key academic writers in the concept of marketing that will give them scope to think on matters that directly concern their research/dissertation and simply ‘fit the puzzle’. It is an excellent starting point in building a strong literature review.

I particularly enjoyed the models in this book that are easy to remember and not lose track of the writer’s flow of the matter he is engaging in. Finally the case studies (MyTravel and Cattles plc.) that were offered mark a sharp ending to the book. Rather by lightly drawing from issues that were discussed in previous chapters to emphasise the main aim of the book, which is effective engagement with the financial markets.

Overall, this book is not for everyone. It is to be used to stimulate the reader's thinking towards a practical and direct action solution in the area professionally and/or academically.

A Religious World View

I use this as the textbook for the college class I teach on Introduction to World Religions. The best part of this text is that it sets up a consistent approach to all the religions it studies. It gives a working definition of religion and consistently applies that definition throughout the text. This book allows the reader to compare each religion using seven ideas. This allows the students to compare and contrast all religions from the same framework - a wonderful method. The text does make an occasional error such as the statement on Christianity's view of human nature (not all Christian denominations hold the same view on this topic). These can be corrected by the instructor. It also deals with contemporary, new American religions. The last section of the textbook deals with the application of the world's religious views to morality. It is readable but very methodical. It has few pictures and no color shots which would enhance the presentation. In the morality section, the author presents all sides of the issue but seems to take the more moderate side of the religious application to a particular moral issue. With all the above being said, I would recommend this text for a college class and for the serious reader who wishes to understand the basics of world religions. In the hands of a knowledgeable instructor, this is an outstanding textbook.

This book provides a great basis for learning about religions, but it makes you work for it. Some pictures, great descriptions, and enough background to get the basics but definately not light or entertaining. If you simply want to learn or are VERY interested in learning about different religions then this is a great purchase. It was a required text for one of my college classes, and served its purpose but I was not at all motivated to read extra chapters simply for the sake of learning. The language is fairly user friendly, and it is a well written, well researched text.

Fantastic resource

I think this really is one of the best resources for learning about comparative religion.
Other resources tend to be much more picture oriented and this is more geared toward the text, which made it easier to read for me. If you want something with better pictures - I know there are way better books than this, but the writting in this one is better summarized than many others.

Adults learning piano

Both my wife and I have been recommending this book for many years to adults wanting to learn the piano. As part-time piano teachers, we found that the lessons progress at an very good pace for most adults. The choice of songs used in the lessons are tasteful mixing both folk and classical traditions. This book also works well for someone with some music reading background but no previous piano playing experience. This book uses the classical approach and doesn't offer instruction on specific styles like rock, jazz, blues, etc. Overall, I still think it's the best adult piano method book that I've come across so far.

Frances Clark's beginner book moves you through a series of exercises that truly help develop both dexterity for the adult learner as well as rapid sight reading improvement. I am very, very pleased with my progress.

Best adult teacher-driven method available.

I've taught piano for many years. This is by far the best available. In reading a couple of the comments, it appears that some have tried to use it as a self-teaching method. This just won't work, and I don't know of any that will--no more than learning a foreign language from a book. You have to be guided and shown by an experienced teacher. It was never the intent of this book to be a self-teaching guide.

The material presented is in done a logical and progressive way. The exercises and repertoire are appropriate and well graded. I do find that some supplemental material is appropriate. I generally use a combination of this method with the Keith Snell Theory books (1-2,3), and the Francis Clark Piano Etudes books (1,2) work well to supplement the material in the book (by the way, I have never found that practicing lots of 5-finger patterns along with Alberti base, thirds, broken chord accompaniments, etc. ever heart anyone). I also add the Keith Snell Essential Piano Repertoire books where appropriate. These slow down the core book and allow more time to explain and develop style.

This book is one of the greatest shell handbooks in print.

I have been collecting shells for around 20 years and never bothered to get a book about them until now. My 4 year old daughter started collecting and I wanted to make sure I had all the answers to her questions about shells. This is definatly the book to have. She is facinated by the great pictures and the cut-aways of the shells. This is a must have for your shelf.

The best book for beginner shell-collector I've ever seen

I am collecting shells for more than 11 years. At the beginning of this activety I found a lot difficulties in species identification, in determianation of their position in the molluscan systematics. The book of S.Peter Dance was the first guide I had obtained. This book introduced me to the world of "professional" shell-collecting. It showed me the way of collection arrangement, specimen cleaning and labling. I learned a lot of new data on ecology, geographic distribution and systematic of molluscs. Really, it is best book for beginner shell-collector I've ever seen and I greatly suggest it to all beginners and even advanced collectors. The wonderfull photoes of the book makes identification easy, the system of legends and signs (accepted in all other Eyewitness Handbooks) provides brief but very convinient information on geography, ecology, sizes and rarity of the species. Even now (having over 1.500 molluscs species and a lot of identificaton guieds) I oft! en look through this book and gain nesessary information. Unfortunatly, the book deal with marine molluscs only. I am shure, that the books of such quality on land and fresh-water molluscs would be greatly apreciated by collectors.
